STABILITY/COMFORT/BIOMECHANICS
AeroCoach Ascalon extensions are an ergonomic and aerodynamic replacement for standard extensions. Using our Align Wing carbon arm rests, and providing extra support for the forearm and wrist you can improve your handling and stability on the bike when in the aero position.
TITANIUM
Ascalons come in two varieties, both sharing the exact same shape. Titanium Ascalons are approximately 85g lighter per pair than carbon Ascalons and are made of 3D printed titanium, using Electron Beam Melting (EBM) to provide a stiff, fatigue resistance and lightweight part. Titanium Ascalons feature a 3D sintered nylon end gripper.
COMPATIBILITY
Ascalons attach using either a tilt block adapter (those for which the adapter dropdown menu includes (tilt blocks) in the description), or a special adapter if a tilt block adapter is not compatible.
Tilt block adapters fit dual mount M5 or M6 base bars with non threaded through holes. These are supplied with either base bar-specific matched spacers and threaded bars, or universal matched spacers and threaded nuts, and are available in either 15, 20 or 25deg. For any adapters that don't include (tilt blocks) in the adapter type dropdown, and aren't tilt adjustable, available adapter angles are 15, 20 and 25deg, unless otherwise specified.

BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE
Both the titanium and carbon Ascalons are compatible with our Align Wing carbon arm rests as well as our tilt block adapters. If you already own a tilt block adapter or arm rests then you can save money by selecting the relevant options on the drop down list.
AERODYNAMICS
Ascalon extensions are aerodynamic and lower total system drag by up to 1% compared with Angles extensions. This is worth approximately 2w at 45kph, or 4w at 55kph.

COMPUTER MOUNT
An integrated computer mount is available for both Garmin and Wahoo computers. There is a weight limit of 120g for accessories mounted underneath the head unit using the optional action mount.
The standard computer mount puts the Garmin / Wahoo level with the inside of the wrists. The high computer mount puts the Garmin / Wahoo just above the level of the wrists. Images of both options can be seen in the image section on this page.
EXTRA BOLT PACK
The dimensions of the extra bolt pack refer only to the height of the aerobar stackers being used (i.e. a '+20mm extra bolt pack' means that additional bolts will be provided to account for 20mm of aerobar stackers being used in addition to the Ascalon and tilt block adapter).
The extra bolt pack dropdown selection applies to tilt block adapters (adapter dropdown menu includes (tilt blocks) in the description, apart from the universal M5 and M6 tilt block adapters, Bianchi Aquila, Cannondale Superslice, Dare TSRf, ENVE SES, Pinarello Bolide F disc brake and Zipp Vuka Stealth for which base bar bolts are not provided). For Giant Trinity please note that a minimum of 10mm of Trinity stackers must be used under the tilt block adapter - the 'extra bolt pack' length refers to the height of any stackers used in addition to this.
AEROBARS WITH IN-BUILT TILT ADJUSTMENT
Please note that for Trek Speed Concept (rim brake), Cervelo P5 disc / PX / P3X, Argon E119 Tri+ disc (monopost), Tririg Alpha One, Orbea Ordu OMX, Scott Plasma 6 and Ventum One adapters, the Ascalon adapter provided will give a 15deg base angle, which can be increased using the in-built tilt adjustment or aerobar manufacturer provided tilt wedges.
For Trek Speed Concept (disc brake), the Ascalon adapter provided will give a 21deg base angle, which can be reduced or increased by 7deg (to 14deg or 28deg) using the aerobar manufacturer provided tilt wedges.
For Canyon Speedmax CFR (monopost), adapters are available in 15 or 25deg, and are compatible with the angled wedges provided with the Canyon to fine tune these angles further.
The Cervelo P5 Disc Ascalon adapter requires an EX10 monopost (not included). Angle is adjustable to 15, 22, 25 and 32deg. Minimum/maximum horizontal extension reach for long gripper Ascalons (Shimano 9160/SRAM eTap) is 350/410mm measured from the rear edge of the monopost, when set at 15deg. Minimum stack from the top of the base bar is 35mm higher than the EX11 post.
For Cadex Tri, 15 and 25deg adapters are available, both of which are compatible with the 5deg wedges that come with the bike, so angles of 15, 20, 25 and 30deg are achievable.
31.8mm ROUND CLAMP ADAPTER
When using the 31.8mm round clamp adapter, please ensure you have a total 31.8mm clamp section of 85mm to ensure there is adequate room for the clamps either side of the stem. If using narrow spacing (eg. 85mm), then please use the switch plates provided to widen the gap between the hand grips on the Ascalons. Horizontal reach with the Ascalon at a 15deg angle is 280mm minimum, 330mm maximum from centre of 31.8mm round section to end of grippers (when using long grippers). If switch plates are used to widen the Ascalons, this reach increases by 15mm.

DIMENSIONS
Ascalons are micro adjustable for reach and also armpad width and armpad angle. Please see below for more information - maximum horizontal reach is approximately 315mm excluding shifters from the rearwards mounting hole on a standard base bar. For Di2 2-button or Campagnolo EPS shorter grippers are used to achieve the same overall length. In addition longer custom grippers are available - please get in touch.
OTHER ADAPTERS DIMENSIONS
For these dimensions, please use the adapter measurements to the rear Ascalon bolt hole, and then add on 255-305mm to establish the reach and stack characteristics. The shorter grippers (for Shimano 2 button Di2 and Campagnolo EPS) are approximately 40mm shorter than the longer grippers, resulting in a similar overall length.
